“Modern scientific studies have shown that walking, besides its physical benefits, is also beneficial for the mind — improving memory skills, learning ability, concentration and abstract reasoning, besides reducing stress and uplifting ones' spirits.” …….Wikipedia
Without doubt it is hard to ignore that there is an enormous amount of information and research promoting reasons why we should all walk more. If like me you would like to walk somewhere scenic, interesting and off road here in the mid west of Ireland you might experience difficulties in knowing where to find suitable walks.
Disappointed with the quality of long distance trails here in the Mid West and also with the lack of information on where to walk, I have decided to put together a selection of walks that I hope others will find enjoyable. Having walked extensively in Wales and to a lesser degree the hills in England’s Lake District and Scotland where the initial aim was to get to the top, it is perhaps with age and maturity that I have began to appreciate the finer points of walking in the countryside and it is this background that has influenced this selection of walks.
Information provided on these walks will include directions on how to get there, where to park and a general description of the walk. Each walk also includes a route map and images of scenes and points of interest along each trail. Should you require further information regarding any of these walks you can by email.
Remember – walking is green, walking is healthy and walking is free!
